National Satellite Publishing President & CEO Robert L. Vogelsang presented the Cornerstone awards at a luncheon ceremony held on December 4, 2001 at the annual Private & Wireless Broadband Show (now Broadband Properties Conference).
"My congratulations go out to all of the winners," said Vogelsang. "It is companies like these that are the foundation for which strong and viable industries are built. It was my honor to be able to recognize each of them with a prestigious Cornerstone Award."
The Cornerstone Awards represent annual recognition of excellence in the field of broadband and digital cable television service for residential multifamily (MDU) and commercial (MTU) properties.
Each year, a committee of industry leaders, analysts, and writers vote to bestow these Cornerstone Awards to companies or individuals whose accomplishments of the previous 12 months were deserving of this special recognition.
The 2001 winners were:
Private Broadband Operator of the Year
Awarded to the Private Broadband Operator who represents excellence in providing
digital video and broadband services while continuing overall exceptional standing
with peers, vendors and owners.
Winners (tie): Advanced Telemedia (ATM) & MDU Communications
High Speed ISP of the year
Awarded to the company that provided excellence in broadband partnership opportunities
for providers, building owners or property management companies.
Winner: Noment Networks
Technology Innovation Award
Awarded to the company who provided the most significant innovation for better
enabling operators to provide highly competitive services in the residential
multifamily or commercial properties marketplace.
Winner: QLynk Communication/EtherSpilt
Industry Leadership Award
Presented to the individual who has dedicated time and energy beyond what is
required to raise the status and advance the cause of the Private Broadband
industry.
Winner: Mark Sherman, WSNet
In Addition, Private & Wireless Broadband Magazine, (now Broadband Properties) presented two Cornerstone Awards in recognition of contributions to the publication over the course of 2001. These winners were:
Excellence in Marketing
Presented to the company that displayed excellence and innovation in marketing
their product or service to the private broadband industry through a combination
of advertising campaigns, strong collateral materials and compelling wed design.
Winner: WSNet
Excellence in Editorial Contribution
Presented to the individual who exhibited excellence in their editorial contribution
to Private & Wireless Broadband Magazine over the previous 12 months.
Winner: Don Kent, eCablevison Consulting, Beyond Access Column
About the Cornerstone Awards
Originally established in 1989 as the Diamond Tier Awards and presented as recognition of achievement to companies providing cable services to the MDU industry, the Cornerstone Awards were expanded by National Satellite Publishing in 2000 to include and recognize achievements in broadband and telecommunications for residential multifamily (MDU) and commercial (MTU) properties. The awards are presented annually at the Broadband Properties Conference each Fall.

Nominations for the 2002 Cornerstone Awards can be submitted via the Broadband
